“Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God” Mark 10:14.
This fall marks the 21st year for our school. We began in 1997 with a Preschool. In 1998 we added our Daycare and Kindergarten. Stacy Sahr was the Daycare Director and Ruth Rynearson was the Preschool Teacher. They just finished 20 years of working at Peace. In 2013, we brought the programs together to make it clear that education happens in every room in the building. In this newsletter there are articles about what two of our classrooms are doing. In the coming months the rest of the classrooms will be featured. We have also now added an Elementary School currently going from Kindergarten to Second Grade. Next year the plan is to add Third Grade.
While we have grown substantially our goal is still the same, to welcome children and families with Christ’s love. We have always worked hard that the school would be a place where children could be safe and flourish. Our Lord and Savior was very clear: “Let the children come; do not hinder them.” The church people (the disciples) tried to keep children away from Jesus. Perhaps they thought he was too busy to deal with kids. Or more likely they thought he should be spending all his time with them. “When Jesus saw this, he was angry and said: ‘Let them come.’”
Of course, church people have never made that mistake again! It is so easy to get lost in the things of the day that we forget to just spend time and listen to our children, to ask them about their day, to listen to their joys and fears. There seems to be so much else demanding our time we forget what is most important—time with our family. We all need to turn off the technology (TV, Facebook, Insta-chat-agram, or whatever is the latest) and just visit with each other. We also need to listen to our God through his Word who does not reject any of us but continues to comfort us with his love and forgiveness.
