Peace Lutheran Church is a growing community of believers focused on the Prince of Peace, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  People long for a place where they feel safe and secure, and where they are known and accepted.  True peace is found only in God’s love for He has established peace with us through Christ Jesus.  As Paul wrote:  “For in him the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross” (Colossians 1:19-20).

        Peace Lutheran Church was formed in 1996 by a group of 24 people.  The church was established as a place where everyone would be welcome.  Some of the other original goals were to form a congregation where everyone could use their God-given talents and gifts as well as to start an outreach to children and their families.  Through the blessing of God, we are now a congregation of nearly 250 people. 

          In order to reach out to children Peace started a preschool in January 1997, and then in August 1998 added a Daycare and Junior Kindergarten.  The goal of these programs has always been to share God’s message of hope in Christ Jesus.  Currently, over 85 children a week are involved with the Early Childhood Center.

     Peace orginally met in an office building in the center of Brookings.  In 2000 the congregation moved into its current facility which is phase one of a planned three-phased structure.  The first phase included the Early Childhood Center as well as a gymnasium that is used for worship.  We built the gym first so that it could be used not only on Sunday but also throughout the week.  We are beginning the process of looking at space needs to determine when we can add on a Sanctuary, Fellowship Hall, and more Education space.
